Liverpool earn first win of pre-season – Henderson and Salah strike for Reds

Liverpool got the first win of their pre-season beating Crystal Palace 2-0 in Singapore.

The Reds bounced back from defeat against Manchester United earlier this week with a goal in each half from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.

New signing Darwin Nunez came on at halftime and looked dangerous despite not scoring.

Liverpool will be happy with the progress and now move on to RB Leipzig next Thursday.

Liverpool started positively dominating possession with Curtis Jones going close early on when he stabbed a shot on target from close range which was well saved by Guaita.

But it was captain Jordan Henderson who opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a fine finish after good work on the right wing from Harvey Elliot.

The 19-year-old controlled a searching long-range pass from James Milner before pulling it back for the oncoming Henderson who finished powerfully.

However, the only negative from the game was that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who started the game, was forced off just before half-time with an injury; the extent of which we don’t know yet.

In the second half, Liverpool made wholesale changes bringing on star names such as Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Thiago, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Sepp Van der Beg, Harvey Davis, Fabio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah.

The substitutes made an impact straight away with Salah combining with Alexander-Arnold before his deflected shot beat Guaita.

He was involved again not long after with Thiago’s cross-field ball being taken expertly by Salah who found Nunez in the box but he saw his powerful shot was blocked by the keeper.

The former Benfica forward saw another half hour of action, like most of the substitutes that came on at halftime in what are vital minutes for fitness.
