Liverpool can capitalise on manager uncertainty to agree huge €398,000/week deal for 2022

Liverpool must act fast to use the uncertainty between PSG and Mauricio Pochettino to arrange a pre-contract agreement with Kylian Mbappe for the summer of 2022.

The Athletic reports that Tottenham Hotspur are currently in talks to arrange for Pochettino to make a surprise return to North London.

With a year left on his contract at PSG, it will be tricky for Daniel Levy to facilitate the move but Poch has previously said that he always believed he would make a return to Tottenham.

As Kevin Palmar tweeted below, it's unlikely he thought it would happen so soon after he left the club.

For Liverpool, this could present a unique opportunity to sneak in and capitalise on PSG's managerial uncertainty and agree what would be a huge pre-contract agreement with Kylian Mbappe over a move to Anfield in the summer of 2022.

The no.7 is one of the hottest talents in the world right now along with Erling Haaland.

Miraculously, both players contributed directly to 53 goals this season and while the latter is the younger of the two, PSG's starlet is, at least to me, the more attractive of the two purely based on his versatility.

Being able to play on either wing and down the middle is something that Haaland isn't able to offer although I doubt Liverpool fans would have any concerns about the Norwegian scoring 41 goals a season down the middle.

That said, John W. Henry has already laid the groundwork for Liverpool to sign the French forward. L’Equipe reported in February, via SportWitness, that Henry "left a great impression" on the Mbappe family back in 2017 and that only the Reds and Real Madrid stand a chance to sign him.

It goes without saying that any chance of Liverpool signing Mbappe this summer depends on them winning the lottery.

Transfermarkt value the French star at £144million despite only a year remaining on his contract and with the club's record transfer fee standing at £75million after Virgil van Dijk joined the club in 2018, it seems unlikely that FSG will sanction almost double that being spent on Mbappe.

Especially when you consider he'll be available for free next summer due to his contract standoff with PSG.

That said, with Mbappe reportedly earning €398,000 per week and with a wage increase expected with a move to a new club, Liverpool could subsidise his earnings with the fee they would have had to pay had they signed him from PSG.

Liverpool will, of course, generate untold amounts of money through kit sales from what would be one of the most incredible signings ever made.

His move from PSG would create more headlines if it came along with a £144m price tag but with the 22-year-old set to enter the final year of his contract, it is realistic to imagine he will leave the Ligue 1 club for free if he leaves at all.

There is still the distinct possibility that he renews his deal for another year or two but if he wants to leave, it would be in his best interest to continue running his terms down and if Liverpool secured his signature, it would go down as Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp's greatest ever signing.

Here's to hoping...
