Liverpool can sign utterly ridiculous midfielder for less than €60million - he's unhappy and stormed off the pitch

Liverpool can sign Frenkie De Jong for less than €60million with the Dutchman reportedly free to leave this summer as his time at Barcelona has soured recently.

The former Ajax midfielder raised a few eyebrows with his reaction to being substituted by Xavi against Rayo Vallecano in the 60th minute.

Barcelona were losing 1-0 with an hour of play to go and after being taken off for Nico Gonzalez, De Jong displayed his frustration quite clearly while walking around the pitch.

While he is blessed with an abundance of talent, things have not worked out as planned at Barcelona for him and as a result of the less than ideal recent circumstances, he has been heavily linked with a summer exit.

According to Sport, Liverpool are keen on signing him as they and Bayern Munich are "willing to pay for a transfer at the end of the season."

Although he has a £337 million release clause, Calciomercato states Barcelona will accept less than €60million (£50m) for him this summer.

That's a deal Liverpool would be absurd to not consider as he is the perfect Thiago successor if Gavi signs a new deal with the La Liga outfit as is expected.

De Jong's younger teammate is the ideal heir to Thiago as he is the perfect combination of technical excellence and work ethic which is required under Jurgen Klopp.

However, Gavi is likely to sign a new deal with Barcelona and so De Jong would be the perfect player to come in, learn from Thiago and then succeed him in the Liverpool engine room.

Jurgen Klopp would be able to get the very best out of De Jong and while the German would not be very impressed with his attitude after he stormed down the tunnel in late April, he doesn't seem like a bad egg but rather a frustrated player wanting to play more and star for Barcelona.

For £50m, De Jong would be an absolute steal.
