Mikkel Damsgaard is a player that Liverpool are very attracted to, according to Corriere dello Sport, and have been told a deal can be done for as little as €25million.
According to a report from Sport Mediaset from the start of this week, Liverpool and Tottenham had made initial contact with Sampdoria for ‘Danish jewel’ Damsgaard.
The 21-year-old captured the world’s attention in the best way possible when he thundered home a truly spectacular free-kick against England in the EUROs.
The technique displayed to control the power behind the ball from 25 yards was outstanding and now he has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
Liverpool have been in initial negotiations with Serie A outfit Sampdoria over what it would take to sign their young star and while Sport Mediaset claimed a bid of around €35million would see talks ‘take off’, another Italian source sees things differently.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Everton are also in the mix while AS Roma and Juventus could make a move to sign him.
Sampdoria will reportedly let Damsgaard leave and with Liverpool in preliminary discussions over what would be needed to sign the Dane, they have been told a bid as low as €25million (£21.3m) would be accepted.
“It’s no surprise that a club like Liverpool is interested in him and I wouldn’t be surprised if they monitor his progress over the next year or two.
“He’s not quite ready to make the jump to Anfield but if he continues his development the way he has over the last year, he will be a tremendous player in no time.”
I’d be curious to see what Damsgaard could achieve at Liverpool but he strikes me as the type of player that is best suited for a tournament like the EUROs.
Of course, he’s still very young and it’s not fair to pass judgement until he has had the chance to prove himself consistently but Liverpool need a player that can succeed the front three but that also make an impact immediately as well.
