Liverpool are set to submit bid to sign £50.5M stunner despite already signing one of the best bargains ever

Liverpool may have landed a true bargain this summer but fans are still demanding another midfield signing amidst injury concerns.

The Reds signed Fabio Carvalho from Fulham for a fee worth as little as £5M.

But Liverpool have seen as many nine players sidelined in recent days, leaving them shortchanged in midfield.

Whilst Carvalho is an exciting, promising attacking threat, fans are hoping the club dips back into the market for Sporting's Matheus Nunes.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reported earlier this week (via Paisley Gates) that the 23-year-old midfielder, labelled "one of the best in the world" by Pep Guardiola last season, would be open to a move to Liverpool or Manchester City.

He rejected an €11M contract from Wolverhampton Wanderers – the “contract of a lifetime," according to Correio da Manha – to join a club like Liverpool that can offer silverware and Champions League football.

His contract with Sporting Lisbon includes a £50.5M release clause that can be triggered to sign him at any point this summer.

This followed a report from A Bola that claimed he had rejected an €11M contract from Wolves.

Liverpool, reportedly, are preparing a bid to sign the midfield which will likely be accepted after Sporting agreed to sell him to Wolves before he rejected the opportunity.

If he moves to Anfield, he can expect a few boos and whistles at Molineux this season.

Carvalho's role this season

With Liverpool looking short in midfield, Carvalho could find himself as part of the midfield three at times this season.

It will likely be against weaker opposition where Liverpool will dominate the ball as he is currently a back-up for Luis Diaz off the left wing.

The Reds could even move to a 4-2-3-1 formation which could give Carvalho a chance to play in his natural position.

If they do, he could be in line for more game time but until then, he will be used mostly off the bench and will start in the cup and games against lower opposition.
