Informed journalist: Liverpool “out of the race” to sign €100M future superstar despite agreeing on personal terms

Liverpool are “out of the race” to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco as Real Madrid are close to a “total agreement” worth €100M including bonuses.

Los Blancos have bested the Reds twice in a week after beating them in the Champions League final.

It was a heartbreaking game to watch but missing out on signing Aurelien Tchouameni just rubs salt into the wound.

The 22-year-old is a future superstar as evidenced by Liverpool agreeing personal terms with him and Madrid being willing to spend around €100m to land his signature.

Santi Aouna reports that Tchouameni has not changed his mind and will join Real Madrid should everything go according to plan in negotiations with AS Monaco.

Liverpool have missed out as Real and Monaco “continue to discuss” the structure of a deal to take the French star to the Santiago Bernabeu.

They are, according to Aouna, “close to a total agreement worth around €100million”. Bonuses could take the deal over that mark.

Most significantly and most frustratingly, from our point of view, the journalist reports that “Liverpool are out of the race.”

Aurelien Tchouameni

Jurgen Klopp’s engine room needs investment this summer but the German was never going to get FSG to pay what Monace are demanding.

It’s also fair to assume Klopp wouldn’t want to make such a high profile signing unless the player in question would dramatically improve the side.

Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are the only two signings the Reds have made in that mould and they have more than justified the record fees paid to bring them to Anfield.

They’ve since gone on to win every trophy available since and there are very few complaints about how Liverpool conduct their transfers anymore.

Luis Diaz on parade with Carabao Cup

Luis Diaz signing in the winter transfer window made a major impression on fans, with FSG rarely making such spontaneous moves.

However, they had been tracking him for years and swooped in to steal him from Tottenham after the Lily Whites had reached an agreement with Porto.

His arrival combined with the improved fitness of injured players sparked a quadruple push.

Missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni is a major disappointment but Liverpool have often succeeded hugely when bouncing back from transfer defeats to sign stunning alternatives.

Hopefully, that will again be the case this summer.
