Leicester City have made an opening bid for RB Salzburg’s Patson Daka but the striker has just namedropped Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Takumi Minamino.
The forward has been linked heavily with a move to Liverpool by outlets in Zambia but now Fabrizio Romano reports that Leicester City have made an official bid while there are yet to be any reports of the same from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Fabrizio Romano reports via Twitter: “Bid made to sign Patson Daka from RB Salzburg. Leicester are close to complete the deal after opening talks for Edouard.”
Liverpool will need to catch a wake up if they are to stand a chance of signing Daka and it won’t take much to sign him if the Mirror is correct as they report that as little as £17m will see RB Salzburg’s valuation met.
What has Daka said about Liverpool players?
In response to questions over the competitiveness in the Austrian Bundesliga and how the likes of Erling Haaland have succeeded since leaving Salzburg, Patson Daka namedropped three Liverpool players.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Daka said: “Different people used to say, Erling [Haaland] can only score in Austria. People think [the] Austrian league isn’t very competitive but I think every competition has its own level and what matters also is how the player develops, how they understand the game.
“It’s also proof to look at the likes of Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Minamino and Haaland also.
“A lot of players that have played here have really excelled and I feel like this club is also a great development system and they give opportunity to every person.”
While mentioning players like Mane is not proof of his desire to move to Liverpool it does show that he is aware of what Jurgen Klopp does for the development of his players and also of how RB Salzburg alumni can succeed at Anfield.
Liverpool need to act fast to sign Daka
In all competitions this season, the 22-year-old scored 34 goals and assisted 12 and it would be a major misstep from Liverpool if they passed up on the opportunity to sign Daka this summer.
If he can hit the ground running at the King Power stadium, Daka could be a dark horse for the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot and by the time he is 25, his value could be two or three times the £17million that RB Salzburg are looking for.
Leicester City are world-class in the transfer market and this is one deal that should not be passed up on.
