Lazio are in direct talks with Divock Origi and his entourage over a move to Serie A this month, according to LazioNews24, who claims Maurizio Sarri has given his approval.

The report claims that the 26-year-old, who earns £344,000/month with the Reds, is a target for Serie A outfit Lazio and they are keen to push forward with a deal to sign him this month.

They cite Italian newspaper Il Tempo as the original source of the story.

They claim the Reds are willing to sell this month to avoid losing him at the end of the month but Transfermarkt says Liverpool have the option to extend his contract with a 'performance option' clause.

Sarri is a fan of the Liverpool forward's. Particularly the 'tactical flexibility he offers which I assume refers to his versatility as he is able to play on the left-wing as well as a centre forward.

Regardless of Origi's contract situation, Jurgen Klopp will not let him leave this month as he has so few options at his disposal with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah currently at AFCON in Cameroon.

Diogo Jota is the only attacking option available to the German manager and while Takumi Minamino is expected back from injury shortly and Roberto Firmino will be returning from COVID-19 isolation in a few days, Origi is not an expendable option.

He's one of the most clinical players at the club and given the lack of attackers at Klopp's disposal, selling one in the midst of a selection crisis would border on negligence even if Origi would walk free at the end of the season.

That said, aside from mention of it on his Transfermarkt profile, there has been very little mention of Origi's contract situation in the media. He signed 'a new long-term' contract in 2019 with an unspecified length.

Origi, who has played such an important role in silverware returning to Anfield over the last few years, has barely played this season but when he has, the big man has made a real impact.

He scored a 94th-minute winner against a very good Wolves side that was only undone by a penalty against Manchester City and just beat Manchester United courtesy of a Joao Moutinho strike from outside the box.

Despite only playing 393 minutes all season, Origi has scored 5 goals and has 2 assists which is very, very impressive.
