Klopp reveals Liverpool will sign a player this summer - but only if he is the 'right player'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has addressed their transfer business in the wake of the injuries suffered in midfield.

The Reds currently have up to nine players out of action, with Naby Keita back in training this week.

There seems to be major issues in midfield with injuries to Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out for at least four to six weeks that have left fans slightly on edge.

Klopp came out to explain their current transfer situation and hinted that they had looked at players, but the 'right' player hasn't been available thus far.

Klopp's comments on potential signings

Klopp revealed his transfer stance in his press conference ahead of the weekend's action. He claims a signing would only make sense if it were the right player.

"I'm happy with the strength and quality of my squad. But we have injuries, that's how it is." Klopp revealed to the media this morning.

"The question is how long the players are out and there are different solutions. One is transfer market, but only makes sense if the right player."

"All the other solutions are inside the squad, we definitely have too many injuries that is clear. Naby will be back on Monday. Kostas will train today for first time, might be back."

"If we look at the right player and there would have been opportunity, then we would do it and would have done it. We have had a lot of conversations but it doesn't look like (it will happen) If we had the right solution then we would have done it already. We are not stubborn."

Liverpool have been praised for their transfer business in recent years and have never panicked in the market - if Klopp is waiting for the right player, it's best to trust the German who's seen brilliant signings come in during his tenure on Merseyside.

Potential signings?

We know the links Liverpool have had this summer in midfield which have included Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes.

Bellingham is a long-term target and someone that will be available next summer.

However, Nunes is ready and waiting for a move to a big club now, given that he rejected a move to Wolves earlier this summer.

Should Liverpool want to sign a midfielder, there are plenty of options on the market - both for free or at a lower price - here's five players we picked that Liverpool could sign.
