"It looks like City..." Jurgen Klopp mounts pressure on Manchester City with comments in interview

Liverpool are set to battle it out against the might of Manchester City once again this season.

Both sides have secured big-money signings at the top of the pitch in Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez and both teams will hope they can fire them to the title.

With just over a week and a half to go before the season starts, Jurgen Klopp has laid down the gauntlet to City claiming them to be the favourites.

Is this just another classic ploy from Klopp to shift the pressure onto the reigning champions? Or do you believe, like some fans, that he himself is under the cosh?

Klopp's comments on the title race

The German manager spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the new season where in which he re-iterated the difficulty of winning the league title with City being so strong.

"It's always like this: the main target is to qualify for the Champions League," Klopp told Sky Sports.

"It's really difficult enough already. When you reach that and then still have time to fight for the title, then you do that. But for the majority of the season, you fight for the Champions League.

"That will be a massive fight (for the Premier League title), oh my god. That's the Premier League. I have no idea who will make the race, it looks like City in the end will be the champion.

"If we hadn't have been champion I think they would've won it five or six times in a row which is really crazy in this country.

"But our target is to play the best possible season for us. What can we squeeze out? Let's see. Really looking forward to it."

Liverpool backed to challenge if star man can fire

The Reds have been tipped by most pundits to challenge City all the way in the title race.

However, Paul Merson claimed that they will need star signing Darwin Nunez to fire 'immediately' if they stand any chance of winning the title.

“The only worry for Liverpool, on the other hand, is that they’ve lost an unbelievable player in Sadio Mane, who scored big goals for them over the years,” Merson claimed.

“If Jurgen Klopp can get Nunez firing immediately, it’ll be tight once again, but if that doesn’t happen, I think Manchester City should win the Premier League.”
