Jurgen Klopp disappointed in Liverpool's loss to Salzburg - claims the team can do 'much better'

Liverpool went down 1-0 to RB Salzburg in their latest pre-season friendly yesterday.

The Reds fielded a more rotated side ahead of the Community Shield against Manchester City on Saturday and paid the price.

Salzburg had already started their new season with back-to-back wins in all competitions and gave Liverpool a stark reminder ahead of Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp was disappointed with his Liverpool side claiming there was a disconnect in attack and claimed they could do 'much better'.

Disappointing Salzburg defeat

As mentioned the Austrian champions are already up to full speed having begun their season.

It was the highly coveted Benjamin Sesko who opened the scoring - justifying all the pre-match hype around himself with a brilliant break-away goal.

But Klopp was disappointed with his side's performance and made it clear post-match:

“All the boys can do much better, it’s not about that. We played in the first half against a team who might play Champions League, they have to qualify probably but they might play.

“When you play football but you are not connected, you lose the ball, it means there’s always space to use for the counter-attack. And that’s what we gave them. And that’s what we have to learn.

“That’s what we know but in the first half maybe we didn’t know it good enough and that’s why we conceded the goal.”

Any cause for concern?

We believe not; the starting eleven was a heavily rotated line-up with the Reds having one eye on the Community Shield on Saturday.

Also, Salzburg are ahead of Liverpool preparation-wise and have already started their season.

Fans would have been happy to see contributions from the young academy prospects in Isaac Mabaya and Stefan Bajcetic, who impressed again.

The Reds end their pre-season international pre-season tour with two wins and two losses ahead of Saturday; however the Reds face Strasbourg at home on Sunday in their last pre-season game - which should feature another heavily rotated side.
