“I’m not so sure”: Jamie Carragher explains his major Liverpool concern after Champions League triumph

Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League are dead yet but admits that it will take some luck.

The former Liverpool defender also says he thinks the Reds will win the Champions League after their strong, dominant performance against Villarreal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side gave the La Liga outfit very little space and suffocated them high up the pitch to the point they had just one shot – it was off target.

The Reds had 74% of the ball and 88% pass accuracy to the Yellow Submarine’s 66%. Thiago was Man of the Match 96% of his passes reach their mark.

Speaking live on CBS Sports, Carragher discussed his former side’s chances of winning the Champions League and the Premier League.

He said: “I think Liverpool will win the Champions League. The league I’m not so sure, Manchester City have the slight advantage in that if they win all their games they’ve won the league.

“If Liverpool can get through this weekend still being in the same position they’re in with Manchester City I still think they’ve got a great chance with the league but that’s up to Manchester City.

“I think Madrid will go through. When you miss that many chances in the first leg you have got a massive problem. It’s a big standout game.”

While Jurgen Klopp’s side might have one foot in the final with their 2-0 lead heading into the second leg against Villarreal, the story back home in the Premier League is a trickier affair.

Despite their stunning league form in 2022, Liverpool are still a point behind Man City in the league table with just five games to go.

Most struggle to see Pep Guardiola’s side losing points between now and the end of the season but I just have a feeling, deep inside, that they will slip up somewhere, somehow.

Liverpool need them to draw or lose while winning their remaining games to win the Premier League title this season.

If it happens, it will be one of the most incredible achievements in recent Liverpool history and will make winning the quadruple feel less like a fantasy and more like a possibility.
