If report is true, Liverpool are closing in on a €59M transfer for ambitious ace

If Correio da Manha are to be believed, Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon.

There has been a steady stream of links between the Reds and the 23-year-old midfielder in the last week.

Despite this, both James Pearce and Fabrizio Romano have rubbished suggestions that there is any interest in the Portugal international.

However, Correio da Manha are doubling down on their story and Ruben Amorim - head coach of Sporting Lisbon, is increasingly worried that Nunes will leave the club before the close of the transfer window.

Sporting want €59M (£51m) to sell Nunes which would require more major investment from Liverpool this summer.

Despite Jurgen Klopp stating this summer that he is happy with his options, signing a new midfielder would give the German the perfect squad depth.

Much like Luis Diaz took Liverpool to the next level when he arrived in January, Nunes is a player that could help raise the quality in the squad while simultaneously improving the strength in numbers.
