"I wouldn’t go there": Gabriel Agbonlahor warns attacker that has already completed medical against Liverpool move

Liverpool are close to completing a deal to sign Fabio Carvalho after an agreement with Fulham was scrapped in January but he's been warned to stay away from Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano exclusively broke the news on Thursday, reporting that he will join the club on a five-year deal until 2027 worth £5m up front and £2.3m in add-ons.

Former Aston Villa star and talkSPORT pundit, Gabriel Agbonlahor, says he's wasting his time with a move to Merseyside and has advised the teenager to stay at Fulham.

Speaking to Football Insider, the striker, who scored 86 goals during his career, says there is too much competition at Liverpool for Carvalho to make an impact.

“If I was him," Agbonlahor began, "I wouldn’t go there because you’re not going to play. Why would you go to Liverpool now?”

Well, beyond the attraction of joining a team managed by a coach like Jürgen Klopp, who has a world-class track record with young talent, there is obviously the lure of winning silverware.

Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this season and are in the race to win the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup to become the first-ever club to win the quadruple.

Of course, Agbonlahor's concerns are more to do with game time and where Carvalho would fit in amongst the star-studded names that are in FSG's employ.

The former Premier League star continued: “Where do you fit him in? Does he want to just play the Carabao Cup games?

"He’s not going to start in that team, there are too many better players.

“If I was him I would go to a Premier League club where he’s going to play. Even stay at Fulham where he’s going to get a chance to play in the Premier League next season.

"That’s what he would be best off doing.

“He’s not going to get the game time at the moment at Liverpool.

Agbonlahor's concerns are valid but if the 19-year-old has agreed to move from Fulham to Liverpool, he must have been made assurances over game time and his future role in the side.

Harvey Elliott has shone for the Reds this season and had he not been struck down by a serious ankle injury against Leeds, there's no doubt that he would have played more football for Liverpool this season.

The former Fulham star is a particularly good example of what a player like Carvalho can expect when he moves to Merseyside and while it's not going to be easy to break into the team, he's certainly got the talent to make his way into the squad.
