Report: Jurgen Klopp set to welcome 'special player' back to AXA Training Centre as injury exile comes to an end

Harvey Elliott is due back in Liverpool training this week after recovering from the horror injury he suffered against Leeds United in September.

Last week, Dominic King reported for the Daily Mail that the young Liverpool midfielder would be making the big step to return to team training after recovering from a broken ankle.

He suffered the injury due to a tackle from Leeds Pascal Struijk and while the challenge may not have had ill intentions, the Whites' defender was shown a red card but Elliott has not made a single appearance since.

He has been training outside on his own as part of his rehabilitation for several weeks now and is almost ready to take part in team training which is a major step towards returning for the Reds.

It was such a massive disappointment to see the 18-year-old struck down by such a major injury and the hope now is that it hasn't ruined his career as these types of injuries can have lasting effects on players.

Elliott is an especially talented player and was already starting to become a key player on the right flank where he was beginning to forge an interesting relationship with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

At times it did feel like overkill having such creative and impactful players on the right-hand side but it did mean that Liverpool could overload the right-wing and then switch play to Sadio Mane.

This worked with devastating effect against Burnley and left huge space for Sadio Mane to score so hopefully we can soon see more of that when Elliott is given the all-clear to return to the pitch.

That said, I am certain that Jurgen Klopp will very careful with his young gem to make sure he doesn't burn him out or put him at risk of getting injured again as that's the last thing he and the medical staff will want.

He was 16 at the time but Jurgen Klopp labelled Elliott as a 'special player' in 2019 and we will soon see more of that talent at Anfield.
