“I’ve ever seen”: Graeme Souness bizarrely slams Liverpool gem and references the “incident from a couple of years ago”

Graeme Souness bizarrely found the need to brand Mohamed Salah the “greediest” player he’s “ever seen” after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Manchester United on Tuesday.

The Reds are flying at the moment and after booking a Champions League semi-final date with Villarreal and an FA Cup date with Chelsea, focus switched back to the Premier League.

The win over Ralf Rangnick’s side sent Jurgen Klopp’s men to the top of the Premier League.

The Egyptian was simply brilliant last night, assisting the opener for Luis Diaz after a well-timed run was spotted by Sadio Mane.

He then scored two goals of his own, with the first being particularly special due to the majestic pass from Mane.

Yet, Souness told Sky Sports that he believes Salah is the greediest player he’s ever seen, glossing over all the good aspects of his game as showcased at Anfield.

Kelly Cates asked the former Liverpool midfielder about how important it was for Salah to score after not scoring for six games in a row.

Souness bizarrely replied: “He’s the greediest player I’ve ever seen.”

The awkward silence in the studio was followed by the 68-year-old saying: “He is. I mean, he’s a great player but I have to say he’s the greediest player I’ve ever seen.”

Bear in mind Salah now has the joint-highest number of assists in the Premier League this season as both he and Trent Alexander-Arnold have 12.

Souness continued: “He is a truly great player, but we had the incident from a couple of years ago when he was falling out with Mane because he wasn’t passing – but him not scoring for six games is a minor blip.”

In all competitions, Salah has 30 goals and 12 assists this season and while I’m not denying he has a greedy streak to his game (which top forward doesn’t?), it was a bit odd that Souness found it so hard to recognise the brilliant game the Egyptian had.
