Liverpool urged to sign massive £25m striker - his manager says he would have scored against Chelsea

Genk manager Dimitri de Conde seems to be fishing for a transfer for his 2.01m striker, Paul Onuachu, and has urged Liverpool to sign him.

Speaking to Belgian news outlet Bold, as translated by the Liverpool Echo, de Conde said: "Did you see Liverpool against Chelsea? Liverpool have the best strikers, but none with the same profile as Onuachu.

"He would have scored against ten men. I'm not saying that Paul would play 90 minutes every week in Liverpool, but a club like that could really use him."

While I don't think replacing 26-year-old Divock Origi, who offers next to nothing to Liverpool's attacking fortunes, with 27-year-old Paul Onuachu is going to change much, it would at least give the Reds a genuine target man.

The Reds have one of the highest crossing volumes of all the teams in the Premier League and while detractors argue it's aimless, Diogo Jota's conversion rate from headers would argue otherwise.

But if you put a man like Onuachu, who stands at 2.01m, in the box to attack the ball, in games where all hope seems lost, he could help Liverpool win a few points here or there.

That said, Sussex Live reported in June that Genk wanted £25million for the forward which is surely a lot more than Liverpool are willing to offer for a backup forward that can only fill one role.

Especially when Patson Daka and Donyell Malen were available for around the same price and would have been able to play several attacking roles for the Reds had they joined the club.

Given that Roberto Firmino, Takumi Minamino and Harvey Elliott have all picked up injuries, Liverpool's decision to forego signing a new forward is looking more and more ridiculous.

Hopefully, it doesn't prove too costly but if one of Jota, Salah or Mane pick up an injury in the next few weeks, Jurgen Klopp will be in a tricky position just as the fixture list becomes congested.
