Liverpool have made progress on a deal to complete £103M signing and Fabrizio Romano claims "It will take time"

Fabrizio Romano has spoken on Liverpool's interest in signing Jude Bellingham after a report claimed that the Reds are making strong progress in their work to sign him.

The discourse surrounding Liverpool's midfield this summer has become quite tiresome.

I think fans are worried that we will have a repeat of last season which saw several midfielders, including Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, battle with injury in the first half of the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp battled with a lack of control in his engine room as a result and many are desperate to see a new central midfielder come in.

The Reds have already signed Fabio Carvalho, who I am hugely excited to see shine in a left-side midfield role, but will the 19-year-old be enough?

I guess there is no real way of knowing that but one thing is for sure, Jude Bellingham will definitely not be the man to join the Reds this summer if they do sign a new midfielder.

Liverpool are making strong progress in their attempts to sign Bellingham

According to Football Insider sources, the Reds are making "strong progress" in their attempts to beat the fierce competition to sign Jude Bellingham in 2023.

The Englishman is ubdoubetedly going to be the signing of the summer next year and Liverpool are hard at work to make sure that he joins Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid are the main three clubs that want to recruit the teenager and if FSG are going to sign him, it's going to take a massive effort and huge investment.

Both City and Madrid can pay more than Liverpool in terms of wages while the Merseysiders have shown this summer, by agreeing a club-record deal to sign Darwin Nunez, that they are willing to spend big when the time is right.

Alisson and Virgil van Dijk were the club's two most expensive signings until a deal that could reach £85M was agreed with Benfica.

Fabrizio Romano speaks on Liverpool attempts to sign Dortmund's star

Reportinging in his column for Caught Offside, the Italian says that no negotiations have been held with Borussia Dortmund but Liverpool are "very interested" in the 19-year-old.

He wrote: “Liverpool explored the possibility in mid-June to sign Jude Bellingham.

"There was not even a negotiation because Borussia Dortmund immediately explained that Jude is not for sale this summer.

“I think there are good possibilities for his sale in the summer of 2023 but it will depend on the offers. So far the player himself has not yet expressed any preference, it will take time.

“Certainly Liverpool are very interested, but will not be alone in a race that will include top clubs from Spain and England as well.”
