Fabrizio Romano gives update on £58m Liverpool target after contract talks stall - Reds apply real pressure

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the ongoing situation between Arsenal and Bukayo Saka.

The Reds have been applying pressure after contract talks between the two have continued to stall.

Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation in his column for CaughtOffside - claiming that top English clubs have been monitoring the situation.

Saka is an Arsenal academy graduate and has become one of the best young players in the Premier League in recent seasons.

Saka's contract situation

Romano addressed the current situation - with Arsenal poised to secure a new deal for Saka and see it as a 'top priority'.

“Arsenal consider Saka a key player and think his contract extension is like a new signing,” writes Romano. “It is a priority for this summer.

“The top English clubs have been monitoring the situation for some time but the good news for Gunners supporters is that Arsenal is the player’s priority: Saka loves the club and there is a negotiation in progress.”

His current deal expires in the summer of 2024 - which is why all the top clubs in England are hoping to apply pressure to the situation in the hope of a potential breakdown in contract talks. Saka is currently worth £58.50m, and would likely cost more than that if any club wanted to sign the fan favourite.

Saka's Rise

The 20-year-old has been part of the Arsenal first-team setup since 2019 and has since grown into their star player.

Originally starting as a left-wing-back, he's grown into their main attacking threat as their best winger.

He even displaced £72M signing Nicolas Pepe due to his form and bagged 11 goals and seven assists in the league last season.

Despite his heartbreaking penalty miss in the European Championships Final for England he's become a regular for his country and stands as one of the most versatile and direct young attacking talents in this country right now.

The longer the contract talks go on, the more pressure will be applied from the top clubs.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on, but it seems Saka will most likely agree on a deal in the coming weeks.
