Exclusive: Liverpool's stance on summer move for £18m-rated ace revealed

Calciomercato reported on the weekend that Aaron Ramsey's contract with Juventus expires in 2023 and the Welshman would fancy a move to either Liverpool or West Ham.

With Georginio Wijnaldum still yet to decide on where he wants to play next season, there are new names being linked with a move to Anfield every week and the latest on a long list is Aaron Ramsey.

While he might have been an astute signing a few years ago, the silky midfielder is not a player the Reds are interested in, as per Anfield Central sources.

Having recently turned 30, the Juventus ace doesn't fit the FSG transfer profile and despite Thiago joining the club aged 29, it was a unique opportunity to sign a world-class operator at a discounted price with a favourable payment structure during a pandemic that harmed the club's finances considerably.

If Wijnaldum does leave this summer, the Reds are looking for more of a like-for-like swap, with Denis Zakaria a player that has been looked at.

Ramsey is more of an attacking midfielder and even then, his attacking output isn't good enough for a side like Liverpool.

His two goals and five assists in 18 Serie A matches this season hardly suggest that he could take Jurgen Klopp's attacking system to the next level.

And then there are the defensive demands on Liverpool's midfielders. In order for the front three to be supported by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, Klopp's midfielders sacrifice themselves to cover the space left on either side of the centre-backs.

This was an easier task last season when Alisson Becker had the unbelievable pace of Joe Gomez and the peerless positioning of Virgil van Dijk protecting him.

As good a job as they're doing right now, Nathaniel Philipps and Ozan Kabak simply don't offer the same protection.

Even if Ramsey was a few years younger, his history with muscle injuries means that he wouldn't cope with the accumulative fatigue that accompanies counter-pressing and tracking back in Liverpool's engine room.

With Calciomercato suggesting that Ramsey is also open to a move to West Ham, the 30-year-old would complement Jesse Lingard, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the Hammers' midfield.
