Opinion: Erling Haaland's four-word response suggests Liverpool are his ideal club

Erling Haaland provided the most simplistic answer when asked by a journalist what clubs must do to secure his signature but delving a bit deeper reveals the true meaning behind his response.

The Norwegian forward is well known for his quirky interviews, with his no-nonsense attitude on the pitch seemingly mirrored off the pitch when he deals with reporters.

When asked by VG what interested clubs must do to sign him, Haaland said: "They must want me."

This could be the typically short response we've become accustomed to from the striker. That said, with just about every big club in Europe interested in Haaland, it could suggest he wants to be made to feel special at his next club.

The likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City are all great teams and can offer huge wages, future success and the infrastructure you'd expect. What they seem to lack is the heart and soul that a club like Borussia Dortmund seems to nurture.

The Bundesliga side is renowned for fostering the talent of the youngest and most exciting players in the world and ensuring they take the correct step when they leave.

Without being biased, Liverpool are exactly the type of club that Dortmund look to sell to due to their family-esque nature.

Jurgen Klopp's bear-hugging at the end of games is not just for the cameras - it's his way of showing his players appreciation and that's the type of thing a player like Haaland needs.

An arm around him when things go wrong and the safety in knowing that he's part of a club that isn't just buying him to increase revenues or sell more jerseys in the megastore outside Anfield.

Haaland may well have just been looking to give the shortest possible offer when he told VG he wants to be wanted. He also added: "I still have a three-year contract, I'm not concerned about that."

The 20-year-old has scored 33 goals and assisted 8 more for Dortmund in just 31 games this season. It's no wonder that Transfermarkt have him valued at £99million because he is one of the most exciting players I have seen for a long time.

While Liverpool don't feature a conventional no.9 in their current system, should the chance arise to sign Haaland, they would certainly pounce.

As with Thiago Alcantara, the former RB Salzburg star is not a player you pass up on.

Granted the cost involved will be drastically different, Haaland would become a truly special player at Anfield and the fans would show him the type of support that he'd only find at his current club.
