Liverpool set to announce first signing of the summer imminently with first departure reportedly confirmed already

Liverpool are set to release Elijah Dixon-Bonner at the end of the season and his departure may make room for the Reds to announce their first signing of the summer.

The Reds have reached a mutual agreement with the 21-year-old which will see him leave the club after 7 years with the Reds.

The former Arsenal midfielder made just one appearance under Jurgen Klopp this season as he started in a 4-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup 3rd Round.

He shared a picture of him kissing the trophy on Monday after Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties on Saturday to lift their second domestic cup of the season.

Jurgen Klopp has eight senior midfielders to choose from in Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, James Milner and Harvey Elliott.

The latter has struggled for game time in the last few months as the importance of each game increased dramatically which made it very difficult for Jurgen Klopp to make room for Elliott in the starting XI or even as a substitute.

Dixon-Bonner leaving means that Liverpool are set to lose another option in midfield but they are closing in on announcing 19-year-old Fabio Carvalho's move to Anfield.

Much like Elliott, Carvalho will likely get plenty of minutes in the first half of next season as Klopp will want to give him the opportunity to become accustomed to Liverpool's demanding tactics.

Midfield is arguably the most demanding position in Klopp's system and Carvalho is faced with breaking into an engine room that features a generational name in Thiago, the best holding midfielder in the world in Fabino while Henderson and Keita have been fighting tooth and nail to feature in the third midfield slot.

The likes of Jones, Chamberlain and Milner have been left with very limited opportunities and so when Carvalho arrives and if Aurelien Tchouameni or the like are recruited, the competition for places is only going to increase tenfold.

A recent report stated Liverpool are imminently set to announce that Carvalho has joined the club.
