Dream Liverpool midfield could be taking shape after exciting update from James Pearce - one step closer

Supporters are one step closer to finally seeing the dream Liverpool midfield trio after James Pearce provided an update after the Norwich City win.

The Reds returned to the Premier League with a 3-0 win - a statement win that saw didn't see Jurgen Klopp's men leave third gear.

The front three was scintillating and the back four was dominant with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip showing their strength against Teemu Pukki.

However, the Reds gameplan really shone in midfield with the energy of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the experience and the control and class of Naby Keita stifling the Canaries.

The Guinean, in particular, was unbelievable. Stats from WhoScored show that he had a 95% pass rate, made six tackles, created one big chance and only lost the ball three times.

It was a slightly more conservative display but he was superb in the role that we saw Georginio Wijnaldum excel in.

He was there to cover for Kostas Tsimikas when the Greek left-back bombed forward, played wall passes to release the explosive Sadio Mane and was always desperate to receive the ball, as evidenced by his 75 touches.

However, despite how well the midfield functioned, it seems as though it's the last time we'll see that trio for a while and it's likely Milner will be the one to drop out.

Following the game, James Pearce responded to fans in a Q&A and said that Fabinho will return to the side against Burnley while Thiago is not far behind.

Jordan Henderson, who has reached an agreement in principle over a new contract, will be the last to return as he returned to pre-season late.

However, we could soon see the dream trio of Thiago, Keita and Fabinho - a glorious triumvirate that is yet to feature for Liverpool.

On paper, that midfield has everything. Fabinho would bring the bite, Thiago would bring the control and Naby would bring the energy and ability to slalom past opposition midfielders.

It would be great to see Jurgen Klopp start them vs. Chelsea if possible.
