"I don't think this one will be possible" - Journalist delivers bad news regarding interest in Serie A star

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Inter Milan midfielder Nico Barella but Gianluca Di Marzio says a move is unlikely this summer.

Italian publication Calciomercato report that Liverpool and Spurs are monitoring the Serie A midfielder after his form for the league leaders.

Barella has 3 goals and 10 assists in all competitions and is attracting a lot of attention after adding more consistency to his game.

Gianluca Di Marzio now reports, however, that it would be very difficult for the Reds, or any other side for that matter, to sign him as Inter Milan view him as an essential player.

Responding to a question from LFC Transfer Room, he said: "Regarding Barella, Inter Milan don't want to let him go, he is very important for them. I don't think this one will be possible [Liverpool bringing him in the summer], he will be very expensive but Inter don't want to let him go."

Liverpool are still waiting on word from Wijnaldum on what his plans are. The Reds have a contract offer on the table that still needs a signature from the Dutchman and with every day that passes, it seems more and more likely that he will leave in the summer.

The former PSV Eindhoven star has been a key starter for Jurgen Klopp's side this season and while he's not irreplaceable, he understands his role at Liverpool perfectly and there's no guarantee a replacement would fit in as well as Gini.

The upcoming summer transfer window seems as though it's going to be a case of problem-solving for Liverpool. With injuries across the board exposing the lack of depth in this team, the Anfield outfit needs to find solutions in case they are blighted once again with a multitude of injuries.

Steps have already been put in place to sign Ibrahima Konate while enquiries have been made regarding Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia, who is viewed as a solution to the lack of creativity in central positions.
