"These 'monsters": Darwin Nunez issues "really special" statement about Liverpool attackers

Speaking in his first interview as a Liverpool player, Darwin Nunez says playing with the attackers already at Anfield is going to be really special.

The Uruguayan joins Liverpool for a total package worth £85m - the highest fee agreed by the Reds for a player in the club's history.

It tops the £75million paid to sign Virgil van Dijk and the £66m paid to sign Alisson Becker.

It's a massive sign of faith in Nunez, who is just 22.

I cannot wait to see him in action next season. Not only is he a lethal striker in front of goal but he is quite versatile and dovetails really well with other attackers.

This is going to be key as the likes of Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and potentially even Sadio Mane (if he stays) are really fluid up front.

Speaking to Liverpool in his first interview after signing with the Reds for 6 years, Nunez said: "There are some top, top players here with great qualities. There is Firmino, who's a great player; and then Jota, who is another great striker; Luis Diaz, Salah.

"To play alongside these 'monsters' is going to be something really special for me because as a kid you dream of going far and I dreamt of being able to play in Europe but I didn't expect to get as far as a great club like Liverpool."

It's quite special to have signed a player like Nunez and it's even better when you take into consideration how far he has come as a player.

The forward has overcome two serious knee injuries - including a torn ACL - and after playing for Penarol, Almeria and Benfica, he will be hungry to make the most of his 'big break'.

Jurgen Klopp has shown a unique love for players that have overcome huge obstacles to reach Liverpool with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson (among others) each having special stories of how they reached the top of the European game.

Nunez is the latest name in a long, decorated history of talented forwards to play for Liverpool and if he is even half as good as Luis Suarez was, we're in for a treat.
