Could Ousmane Dembele be the perfect option for Liverpool?

Could Ousmane Dembele be the perfect option for Liverpool?

Ousmane Dembele's time at Barcelona looks like it could soon be at an end. The 23-year-old has only appeared 5 times this season for the Catalans, scoring one goal.

Now after arriving for €125 million, there are reports he could leave for as little £39 million. He has even been listed as an alternative to Timo Werner, should the German striker's move to Liverpool fall through.

Dembele it should be said however, is a completely different kind of player to the striker. Comfortable playing off the left or the right, Dembele is more of a creator than a goalscorer, with his most productive year being at Borussia Dortmund.

Then positioned on the right, he tore defences apart, with 13 assists and six goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances.

He'd not be a direct replacement for Werner, he's not the same profile of forward. However, he'd be a perfect rotation option for Salah and Mane.

Equally comfortable on his left and right foot, he'd be able to slot in whenever required. He also provides a perfect option to come in if Klopp decides to play in a 4-2-3-1 as he has on occasion.

Jurgen Klopp has already expressed his admiration from the player, having attempted to sign him from his first club, Rennes.

A major issue, however, would be his robustness. Dembele has only made more than 20 appearances in one of his three La Liga seasons. In a high energy system like Liverpool's, he could potentially struggle with his fitness.

His relative youth would count for him though. He wouldn't initially be expected to start too many games for the Reds. Instead, he would be a viable rotation option, who could bridge the gap in talent between Liverpool's starting attackers and their bench.

If he could stay fit, Liverpool would be getting a player who is arguably one of the most talented on the planet. Timo Werner, he may not be, but Dembele could well be the perfect value for money transfer.
