Confirmed: Match officials for Liverpool vs. Chelsea

The Premier League has confirmed that Anthony Taylor will take charge of Liverpool vs Chelsea on Saturday while Chris Kavanagh will be on VAR.

After Manchester City lost against Spurs on the opening day of the season and Manchester United dropped points against an energetic Southampton side on the weekend, Liverpool and Chelsea have emerged as the very early Premier League title favourites.

Of course, it counts for very little at this point of the campaign, but for the sake of bragging rights and a 100% record, whoever wins this weekend will return from the international break with an advantage.

Liverpool fans are not happy hearing about Anthony Taylor being appointed as the match official for their game against the Blues this weekend.

Last week, I wrote a similar article covering Liverpool supporters and their reaction to Mike Dean being named as the referee for the Burnley game.

While the game flowed well, there were several bizarre instances where the 53-year-old simply refused to give Burnley players yellow cards for obvious bookable offences including this clip below where Gudmundsson threw Jota to the ground.

While supporters won't stop complaining about FSG and the club not signing any more players this summer, heading into the international break with three wins from three games after a major game against Chelsea will be a major statement to the rest of the Premier League.

Most pundits have already written Liverpool off due to a lack of transfer activity but if Jurgen Klopp can beat Chelsea after they signed Romelu Lukaku for £97.5m, it will underline his side's title credentials.

Liverpool were really unlucky with injuries to key players last season but if they can keep the likes of Virgil van Dijk fit they should be able to challenge for the title this term.
