Karim Adeyemi is reportedly a target for Liverpool but, according to the Express, Chelsea flew him to London for talks two years ago but he chose to stay at RB Salzburg.
The 19-year-old is an exciting winger that has been linked with Liverpool by a few different sources in the last week but it seems the Reds could have lost out to Chelsea a couple of years ago.
According to Callum Vurley, the Blues flew Adeyemi to London for talks but he and his representatives decided to remain in Salzburg – a decision which seems to have paid off.
Last season, he scored 9 goals and assisted 11 while playing as support to Patson Dake, who has since moved to Leicester City after the Reds failed to make space in their squad to sign him.
So far this term, with the Zambian no longer at RB, Adeyemi has 7 goals and an assist and looks set to enjoy the best year of his career.
While he has been operating as a midfielder for the Reds so far this season, Harvey Elliott’s serious ankle injury is a serious blow to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking depth as well and depending on the timeline of his recovery, a move for a new forward and midfielder could be on the cards in January.
It’s a grave that Liverpool dug for themselves after making just one signing in the summer. Ibrahima Konate came in to provide depth at centre-back but it was actually a signing that needed to be made last summer when Dejan Lovren left the club.
The Reds have started the season well and are third in the table, joint on points with Manchester United and Chelsea but their rivals have much deeper squads to cope with the congested fixture list ahead and so signing Adeyemi in the winter transfer window might help them deal with injuries to key players.
Transfermarkt reports that RB Salzburg want €30million for his signature which is a fair price although it remains to be seen if FSG will sanction any signings or if the reports about Liverpool’s interest are geniune.
