Chairman Werner confirms plan for Reds victory parade

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has confirmed plans for a Premier League title parade. The Reds are currently two wins away from being crowned league champions.

In an interview with Associated Press, Werner said: 'There’s a hole in so many people’s lives.

'Football is central to their dreams and their hopes.'

He continued: 'as regards Liverpool, we are playing magnificent football and we are just a couple of matches away from winning the trophy'.

He did, of course, mention the important point that football is secondary to the current crisis that is occurring worldwide.

However, he also mentioned something that will excite fans in these tough times.

'I am looking forward to a parade sometime when we can all congregate because I know how important that means to all of our supporters.'

Something to look forward to

It wouldn't be Liverpool if everything went smoothly.

There was a period of time where jokes about a pandemic being the only thing that could stop Jurgen Klopp's men were commonplace.

'It'd take Liverpool...'

The joke, as we all know, has become a reality.

After Rafa's facts, Gerrard's slip, and 97 points somehow being bettered last season, Liverpool missing out on titles has always been a source of comedy for rival fans.

The league title drought for England's traditionally biggest club went on and on.

Finally, it seems inevitable that this will finally be the year the drought ends. Liverpool will overcome the coronavirus and win the Premier League, one way or another.

It's far from ideal, obviously. Liverpool should have won the league in March. A packed Anfield should have erupted at the final whistle of the title-winning game.

The side then should have spent two months playing meaningless games in one big celebration.

This would have been topped off by watching Jordan Henderson lift the trophy after the final home game.

This week should have seen the league trophy paraded around the city on an open-top bus. A parade that would even dwarf the Champions League celebration from last year, as Werner alluded to.

Instead, Liverpool will either be handed the title with the season called to an early halt, or win it in an empty stadium.

Instead of one two-month long celebration, there will be two diluted ones.

However, Werner's comments that there will be a parade, when safe, is a massive boost.

Fans can relax knowing that, eventually, they can once again flood the streets of Liverpool and properly celebrate number 19.

It wont be what it should have been, but it will certainly be a massive occasion. After waiting 30 years, surely a few more months won't be that hard.
