Anfield Central authors react to Liverpool's Premier League triump

Following Liverpool's long-awaited recovery of their Premier League crown, I took to gathering the thoughts of Anfield Central's finest in an attempt to find out when exactly they believed the title was coming home.

"For me, it was the two-nil win over Manchester United at Anfield. Despite outplaying them for most of the game, our one goal advantage was slender and the latter stages of the second half were nervy.

"When Salah slotted it under De Gea to double our lead, ripped off his shirt and Alisson ran the length of the pitch to join in with the celebrations, for the first time, I believed we would be champions.

"It was during this game that, for the first time (this season), the Anfield crowd dared to sing "now you're gonna believe us, we're gonna win the league".

"Great scenes".

"Personally, I knew we'd win it after beating Leicester four-nil away.

"We'd been away playing in the Club World Cup in Quatar, having gone into extra time in both games.

"We then flew back and beat Leicester who were playing some great football themselves at the time.

"Not only did we beat them though, we beat them comprehensively and convincingly too.

"A performance fit for the champions-elect".

"I'm not sure about destined. I think it was really the result of hard work and smart decisions. Perhaps you could say that Jurgen Klopp was destined to manage Liverpool and bring it to us, though.

"If I had to choose one moment, then maybe Manchester City's first loss to Wolves. It showed that maybe they weren't quite the same team as in previous years.

"Yes, they had already lost to Norwich, but a second loss proved it was not just a one-off.

"I could be clutching at straws here, but, going forward, I think Manchester City might have more problems in their squad than people realise".

Laurence Reid - Staff Writer

"When Kompany left City.

"I assumed they would throw £150-20 million at the issue, so, when the transfer window closed last summer and they had not brought in a top class central defender, I knew they would struggle.

"Both City and Liverpool were brilliant last season but it seemed like City were just a bit more robust. Their midfield and attack seemed to have more ideas to win games.

Liverpool have steeled themselves this year. You could argue that the football is slightly less attractive than in recent seasons, but they have found a killer edge, especially at Anfield, and have looked like champions since the first week (of the season).

This Liverpool team would have won the title under any circumstances. They have been extraordinary. But (Pep) Guardiola's refusal to sign as 'blood and thunder' central defender made it very easy in the end".

"For so many years, Liverpool have had to listen to Manchester United fans, and more recently, Manchester City supporters, gloat about their success and strength on the pitch. While reaching consecutive Champions League finals was a great sign, we all needed the Premier League crown to really cap off our return to the top.

Beating both City and United this season really put down a marker that the Reds are back. Sir Alex Ferguson once so famously said, "...my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f****g perch". It's safe to say that, now, Jurgen Klopp has undone Ferguson's handiwork and restored the Reds to their place at the top of the English, European and World stages".
