"Can’t do anything worse": Liverpool star has made the worst possible mistake, says former Red

Liverpool's Darwin Nunez has come under severe criticism, and rightly so, for his sending-off on his debut against Crystal Palace.

The summer signing lost his cool by headbutting Palace defender Joachim Andersen in the second half which could have cost Liverpool the game.

Thanks to Luis Diaz's incredible equaliser, the Reds salvaged a 1-1 draw but now will be without their striker for the next three games.

Former Liverpool player Sander Westerveld has claimed that Nunez couldn't have done 'anything worse than this' as the Uruguayan continues to come under more scrutiny.

Nunez slammed by former Liverpool player

Former Liverpool player Westerveld slammed Nunez's actions and claimed that Nunez knows what he did was wrong and his frustrations got the better of him.

“People try to test him but this is not the way to retaliate. You can’t do anything worse than this.

“It was a frustrating night for him. He missed a couple of chances and probably should have scored one or two. First time at Anfield he probably expected a little bit more from himself, but this was just absolutely inexcusable.

“Hopefully it’s only three games but it’s not good timing as he is the only striker we have at the moment. It’s a pretty easy talk with him (for Jurgen Klopp) because he knows what he did with the reactions. He knows he was wrong.

“Like Jurgen says he will learn from it. It’s only the beginning of his career at Anfield and I think it will definitely not happen again.”

The £85m signing will now miss three games: Manchester United (a) Bournemouth (H) and Newcastle (H) Liverpool may well have to do without a centre forward for those three games due to injuries and suspensions.

No Nunez, Jota or Firmino...

Without Nunez, Liverpool look a little short in the striker department. Diogo Jota will remain sidelined for at least another couple of weeks as he eases back from a hamstring injury.

For Roberto Firmino, he's struggled with a knock that kept him out of this week's game despite managing 50 minutes away at Fulham last week.

It's more than likely that Salah will take up the centre-forward role, with one of either Fabio Carvalho or Harvey Elliot deputising on the right wing. Unless Jurgen Klopp wants to entrust Carvalho as a false nine in what would be his PL debut for the club.

It's likely Naby Keita will come into midfield and Elliot will move out onto the wide right to accommodate Salah in the middle - with Nunez's outburst forcing Liverpool into a slightly unnatural shape.
