Pundit says Liverpool 'may be in for' former PFA Player of the Year winner

After an oddly incredible season from Gareth Bale, Liverpool could be tempted into making a move for the gifted Welshman if the finances are right.

The Real Madrid forward has 19 goal contributions in as many starts this season, with the vast majority of his strikes coming since the New Year due to injury troubles he had early on this term.

After overcoming four different problems which ruled him out for a combined total of 19 games, Bale got to work. In the last seven games, he's only contributed on three occasions but managed six goals.

According to Spanish outlet ABC, Bale is considering terminating his contract with Real Madrid, taking a cut of his wages and retiring from football at 31. If this is untrue, however, Jurgen Klopp should offer him the chance to join Liverpool.

If his reported lack of desire to play football is true, then Klopp should steer clear but his celebrations after scoring tell a different story. What he needs is the chance to compete for silverware in a team that can complement his talent.

At Spurs, he is just as likely to win a trophy as he is to win the lottery and given the fact that he earns £600,000-a-week, it seems doubtful that he's purchasing tickets to the National Lottery.

Liverpool head into next season with fire in their bellies after a disappointing 20/21 season and with Ibrahima Konate set to arrive from RB Leipzig, they are sure to be challenging for top honours again.

Bale might not start for the Anfield side but he would be a lethal option off the bench and would give Klopp a hitherto unseen option of resting Mohamed Salah without hurting his side's potency in attack.

Speaking on talkSPORT (25 May, 9.40 am), Darren Bent claimed he thinks he'd be a good fit for the 2020 Premier League Champions: “Bale, with the wages he’s on, is going to have to take a massive cut.

“Man City wouldn’t (sign him), Man United probably wouldn’t. Liverpool? Potentially they may be in for Bale.”

That's where this dies or thrives. Would Bale be willing to take a pay cut on his ridiculous wages for one last hurrah at the top level? Seems unlikely if the report from ABC is to be believed.

From a Liverpool fan's perspective, it would be great to see a player like Bale at Anfield even if it's in the twilight of his career.

A similar loan deal to the one that saw him spend the season at Spurs would be a good way to provide a quality stopgap to the Reds' attacking dilemma.

Bale won the PFA Player of the Year award in 2013 after he grabbed 26 goals and 15 assists in what was his best season ever both in terms of attacking output and his own personal injury record.

He missed just 6 games in all competitions that season compared to the 19 games he's been forced to miss out on this term.

Aside from the finances involved, that might be Liverpool's biggest potential concern regarding a move for Bale.

After a season in which the likes of Virgil van Dijk missed the majority of the season through injury, Jurgen Klopp will be worried about signing injury-prone players.

That said, Thiago arrived at Liverpool with fans worried about his injury history and aside from the challenge on him from Richarlison which caused him to miss 17 games, the Spaniard was fit the whole season.

I've written almost 800 words on a transfer that will almost certainly never happen but the transfer window is wonderful for fantasising and dreaming so if you got this far, thank you!
