Liverpool have "a transfer planned" to sign Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven, the latest reports claim.

The summer transfer window was one which saw Jurgen Klopp publicly admit he was too stubborn over his stance on signing a new midfielder amid a slew of injuries in the engine room.

The club did sign Arthur Melo from Juventus on a season-long loan with a non-mandatory option to buy for €37.5M (£32.2M) in the summer.

While we only saw 13 minutes of him in the 4-1 defeat to Napoli and he was pressed heavily, being tackled twice.

He did, however, have a pass success rate of 85% which is impressive enough given the intense nature of the game he was introduced to.

It may turn out to be a masterclass signing from Liverpool if he makes his move to Anfield permanent and stars in Jurgen Klopp's side for years to come.

But, it's too early to make that sort of judgement.

Ibrahim Sangare "likes" Liverpool and West Ham

There continues to be speculation in the media regarding a Liverpool move for another central midfielder.

Jude Bellingham remains the no.1 target for Klopp and a move to sign him in the summer is realistic if not extremely challenging given interest from the likes of Real Madrid.

According to Calciomercato, Sangare has been tracked by AC Milan but "likes Liverpool and West Ham."

The Ivorian is a midfield powerhouse and excels at driving through midfield after breaking play.

The Express cites the story from Calciomercato with their article headlined: "Liverpool set to capitalise on Man Utd failure to move for PSV star with transfer planned."

Manchester United were heavily linked with the €24M (£20.9M) midfielder this summer but they wound up making an astonishing move to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Would Sangare suit Liverpool's style of play

Strictly speaking, I don't think so.

He's an all-action midfielder and shines most in transition and for a team like Liverpool that dominates possession, he may not be the ideal target.

That said, he can play as an 8 or as a 6 so would provide decent squad options for Jurgen Klopp.

Fabinho is the one player in the squad that doesn't have a natural senior replacement.

Highly-rated youngster Stefan Bajcetic is an option in the defensive midfield role but his lack of experience is an obvious issue.

Jordan Henderson is the only player in the squad (apart from Fabinho) that is able to shine in that position but his form this season has been awful.

With the captain injured, Klopp doesn't have another strong option in that position and that needs to be a consideration ahead of the next couple of transfer windows.
