The current Liverpool forward has acknowledged that, in his quest to make a better comeback than before, he will no longer pay attention to the naysayers on social media.

It's no secret that the Uruguayan removed anything related to Liverpool recently due to the unjustified criticism he was facing.

Rumours have therefore surfaced over Darwin Nunez's future with the Reds, with several sources declaring he is "unhappy" and others saying he is still a part of Arne Slot's plans for the Reds' new look.

Ever since he altered his profile image to a photograph of his family and himself on the last day of the Premier League season, dressed in the new Liverpool kit.

Nunez Responds

Nunez has been mediocre in front of goal, since making the switch to Anfield, for a staggering £85 million.

However, he still has potential and shows indications of starting to find his position in the front line; he is mostly used in the centre, though occasionally he is played unconventionally on the left.

He told Por la Jersey via ESPN Uruguay: "From the moment you start playing and until you retire, there will always be someone who will criticise you. I avoid reading those comments,"

"Before, I did look at them a lot and it affected me. Whoever says that those negative comments do not affect them is lying, those negative comments that are directed towards you will always affect you.”

"They tell me everything, but I ignore those comments because they are of no use to me. I never look at the negative comments on social media, at least now I'm not looking at anything, not even the good stuff. If a game goes badly for me, I rely on my family,"

It hasn't quite been the fairytale expected when he replaced Roberto Firmino in the number nine shirt after the latter left to play in the Saudi Pro League.

The Reds eventually lost the race for the title to both Manchester City and Arsenal. Nunez ultimately scored 18 goals throughout the season, including 11 in the Premier League.

Keep or Sell?

This question still divides opinions, but as a die-hard Liverpool supporter, I think Nunez still has a lot left in him. From the early 2023–24 campaign brace against Newcastle United to the individual brilliance against Liverpool during his Benfica days that earned him a transfer to the Reds, we have seen glimpses of his potential.

Personally, I think Slot will bring about a formation shift that may be more advantageous for Nunez. As Slot predominantly uses the 4-2-3-1, the Reds would have an extra body up front, which might benefit Nunez from the increased creativity.

I believe that the pressure to perform immediately has affected him thus far, but Arne Slot's arrival should serve as the ideal wake-up call and enable the make-talisman to rediscover his goal-scoring form.
