Liverpool target €375k-a-week star to replace Real Madrid-bound defender

As speculation grows on the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool are moving to sign his replacement.

Over the past few weeks, the Liverpool defender has been linked with a move to Champions League holders Real Madrid. With the Spanish club pushing to sign him on a free transfer during the summer. Alexander-Arnold is free to negotiate with foreign clubs under FIFA rules from this month.

It currently seems that there is nothing the Reds can do to prevent the England international from leaving Anfield. Trent himself said that his aim is to become one of the best in world football in an interview with Four Four Two magazine:

“I think cementing a legendary status within football, whether or not it’s recognised in five years or not, I think what I do between now and five years will be, potentially in 15, 20 years time… I’ll look back and I think these five years will cement a legendary status in football [for me].

“Whether it’s recognised or not who knows. It’s all perception, but I think it [the next five years] will cement it.”

While Liverpool continue to hold talks with Salah, Trent and Van Dijk, the club’s recent moves seem to show that they are preparing for life without the trio. Just this week, Ibrahima Konate revealed that he has been offered a new deal at the club. With 18 months left on the French defender’s current deal, the Reds are preparing to keep him long term when Virgil Van Dijk leaves.

The Reds also have a keen interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, who would slot in at the right wing when Mohamed Salah decides to leave the club.

Liverpool are reportedly putting things in place for the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds are also looking to sign a big name on a free transfer this summer. Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich could be the replacement at right back. German outlet TZ reports that Kimmich is on the radar of Liverpool, with his ability to play midfield and defence being admired by the club.

Would Kimmich be a good option?

At 29 years, the German is far older than Trent, the player he would be replacing. Kimmich is also on huge wages of a reported €375k-a-week at Bayern, which would destabilize the current wage structure at Liverpool. Connor Bradley has shown he can be the long term right back of the future, so signing Joshua Kimmich would not really be ideal.
