Mohamed Salah’s decision to open his mouth about the state of negotiations over a new deal with Liverpool has dominated headlines in the last 24 hours. The Reds are yet to offer him a new contract and the superstar is annoyed given there are only seven months left on his current deal. Liverpool still hope that negotiations will lead towards a positive outcome but his decision to speak shows all is not well behind the scenes. It could be time for the club to start looking at potential replacements.
Salah is a Liverpool icon and will go down as one of the legends of the club. His impact on the Merseyside giants can’t be calculated merely by his goals and assists. He has been the ultimate clutch player, the one they turn to when they need inspiration just like they did at Southampton on Sunday.
His performance at St. Mary’s encapsulates what Salah has been to the Liverpool team for the last seven-and-a-half years. However, all this could come to an end at the end of the season if the two sides can’t work through their differences.
There is a real possibility that the forward will leave on a free transfer next summer if a new deal can’t be agreed upon. He wants to stay but the veteran attacker believes he deserves the trust of a three-year contract while the Liverpool hierarchy think otherwise.
Liverpool still want to hold on to him but legends like Jamie Carragher are not helping their cause by calling Salah selfish. The club are trying to strike a balance between keeping Salah and ensuring they remain protected if the star suffers a sudden decline in the next couple of seasons.
However, Liverpool also have a chance to move on from Salah if the numbers do not make sense to the club from a business point of view and the next ‘Salah’ is said to be desperate to join them so why not do it?
The club should go all out for Omar Marmoush
Omar Marmoush was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer. Nottingham Forest were interested in signing him for a fee of around €30m but the negotiations never took off and he stayed put in Germany. Eintracht Frankfurt must be thanking their lucky stars as his departure will now net them close to double the figure they wanted in the last transfer window.
The Egyptian forward cannot stop scoring this season and has 14 goals and ten assists in 17 appearances across all competitions. His record in Germany has turned heads and Liverpool are said to be the frontrunners to sign him when the transfer window rolls out at the end of the season.
A winter move has been ruled out as both the striker and Eintracht want to remain committed until the end of the season but a transfer in the summer seems like an inevitability. Liverpool want him and he wants Liverpool but what makes him special?
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Marmoush has been anointed the heir apparent to Salah in Egypt and some believe he has the potential to become better than his senior teammate. That would be some feat but it is one of the reasons Liverpool fans should get excited if he moves to Anfield. The 25-year-old has come into his own this season but he has been rated as talent for a few years. He has finally put his game together to become the lethal forward everyone believed he always had the talent for.
The belief is he will only get better by playing around better players and Liverpool are a team that should create more chances for him to score goals.
Most importantly, he wants to join Liverpool. The word is that he is desperate to become the man to succeed his idol Salah in the Reds team. It is hard to find players in the market who are more than psyched about joining your club and it seems Marmoush is one of those who has been dreaming about wearing the shirt.
Replacing Salah for any one player would be too much pressure but in Marmoush, Liverpool could get someone who has the talent, the hunger and the passion to do well for them.
