Liverpool are almost certain to sign a striker in the next summer transfer window. Darwin Nunez has failed to impress Arne Slot, which was apparent when he was not in the starting eleven against Manchester City on Sunday. The Reds boss wants a new number 9, which is expected to be a priority at the end of the season.
Arne Slot’s side sit at the summit of the Premier League table with a nine-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. Liverpool are now massive favourites to win the league but they do not have a reliable number 9 in their team.
Nunez has not convinced anyone at Anfield that he can ever become the striker who can score consistently at this level. He is not a certain starter under Slot and it is clear the Liverpool manager would prefer someone else.
The Merseyside giants are keeping tabs on several strikers who could come in and become the solution for Slot’s number 9 woes next season.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush who is likely to leave the German club next summer. However, he is not a traditional number 9 and is more comfortable playing as a second striker, which is a position that doesn’t exist in the current Reds team.
It also emerged recently that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Alexander Isak who is circumspect about signing a new contract with Newcastle United.
The Merseyside giants receive encouragement in the Isak pursuit
According to TEAMtalk, inside Newcastle United, there is major doubt that the striker will agree to sign a new deal with the club.
The Swede is unsure about Newcastle’s trajectory and does not believe the club can match his ambition going forward.
Isak would be keen to join a club next that are competing for the top trophies and regularly play Champions League football.
With the Reds favourites to win the Premier League, they would be high on the list of clubs the striker would like to join if he leaves Newcastle.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Liverpool have their eyes on him but the forward is also a big target for Arsenal who are aware that they need a top number 9 to compete for the Premier League.
A January exit for Isak has not completely been ruled out if a massive offer lands on Newcastle’s table but the club are more likely to entertain bids for him next summer.
The Magpies are likely to demand a fee north of the £100m figure before agreeing to sell Isak.
