Liverpool plot move for Premier League midfield star

Liverpool are in the market for a defensive midfielder. The club are not planning to make any major investments in Janaury but they are ready to be proactive if a top target becomes available in the winter transfer window.

Richard Hughes and his recruitment team are working on a shortlist of defensive midfielders they want to pursue in the upcoming transfer windows.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is still one of their top targets and the club are prepared to trigger his release clause of €60m if the player is actually keen to leave the Spanish club in January.

However, Liverpool have other names on their shortlist of defensive midfielders and the club are remaining vigilant to check if any of them becomes available for a move in the winter window.

One such player is in the Premier League and the Merseyside giants are prepared to move for him if there is a chance of him switching clubs in the middle of the season.

Premier League star on their radar

Liverpool would prefer to sign a defensive midfielder from the Premier League as the player would not need time to adapt to the intensity of the top flight.

Adam Wharton is one of the most exciting young defensive midfielder in the Premier League and he is expected to leave Crystal Palace soon.

According to CaughtOffside, the 20-year-old midfielder is being looked at as a serious option by the Merseyside giants ahead of the winter window.

Arsenal are planning to make a move for him in the winter window and Manchester City are looking at Wharton as a replacement for Rodri.

Liverpool are prepared to act if the midfielder seems to be on the move in January and are considering tabling an offer for the Palace midfielder.

Wharton burst onto the scene last season and was part of the England squad in the European Championship last summer.

With Palace struggling, the midfielder’s future is under the scanner but the Eagles are not expected to listen to offers less than the €65m mark.
