Liverpool have some areas of the squad they need to strengthen ahead of next season.
The lack of quality depth has been a worrying theme this season. Arne Slot’s side was knocked out of the FA Cup after rotating players against Plymouth. Liverpool also failed to progress over two legs in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. In the second leg of the tie when both teams needed a goal, PSG looked to the bench to Desire Doue and Goncalo Ramos, while the reds had to bring on Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez.
It has been a difficult week for Arne Slot and his side. The dreams of winning the treble have now been squashed. But Liverpool still have the Premier League in their grasp with 10 games to go.

This season, Liverpool’s attack has been a real cause of concern. Despite recording some of the best attacking metrics in Europe, the team has lacked a cutting edge. Outside Mohamed Salah, Liverpool have often looked blunt and lacked ideas. In games where the forward has been isolated or locked out of the game, the reds have found it very difficult to impact matches.
Darwin Nunez has been out of favour this season. Arne Slot has not been a fan of the Uruguayan, and has moved him to a rotation role. The Liverpool boss has preferred to use Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz upfront. It worked in the early stages of the season, but in the past few weeks it has become increasingly clear that the club need someone to score goals.
This week, Liverpool have been linked with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. And now, according to Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong, it has been revealed that Victor Osimhen has held talks with big clubs in England, possibly Liverpool. Troost-Ekong was speaking on TalkSport:
“I know he’s a Chelsea fan, but I also know he’s had talks with all the top teams,”
“It’s up to him what he chooses. He will fit into every team. I know Liverpool have spoken about getting a new striker next season. We will see…
“I’m also reading like everyone else is, that he has a clause this summer. When he went to Galatasaray I think it worked out amazingly for him. I couldn’t see him playing there for another season, or anywhere else but the Premier League next season.”
Victor Osimhen is currently on international duty with Nigeria during this international break.
