Liverpool have been quoted £50M for Mohamed Salah replacement

Mohamed Salah is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with Liverpool.

The Egyptian forward is having one of his best campaigns so far; Salah has 18 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League so far. He was on the scoresheet as the Reds beat Lille to continue their perfect record in the Champions League this season. Salah also made history on Tuesday night as he joined the exclusive club of players to have scored more than 50 Champions League goals.

When Liverpool boss Arne Slot was asked about the contract situations at the club after the win, he had this to say:

“I think Virgil [van Dijk], Mo [Salah] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] have always reached a certain standard or above. So you can also look at it if we are able to extend them, maybe we should only do it for one year [Slot laughs] – so we have the same first half of the season again.”

In the event that Salah does leave the club on a free transfer this summer, Liverpool will need to replace him. His level of contribution in the attack has been one of the best in Europe in recent years. Salah has been key to Liverpool’s run this season, and is a strong candidate for this year’s Balon d’Or.

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is a strong candidate to replace the Egyptian. According to Graeme Bailey, Mbeumo is on Liverpool’s shortlist for this summer. Brentford boss Thomas Frank even admitted that it will take a considerable offer for the club to part ways with the star forward:

“It would be that big a fee (to tempt a deal) that I can’t imagine the size of the fee.

“I’m not even focused on keeping the best players, I’m just expecting them to stay,” he said. “And adding? We are always in the market. We don’t have urgency to bring new players in, but of course we are aware if we suddenly need some.

The Cameroon international is valued around £50million, and will surely have a lot of suitors after his form this year. Mbeumo has 13 goals in the Premier League this season.

Would Bryan Mbeumo be a good fit?

Mbeumo has established himself as one of the better players outside the top clubs in the Premier League. His style of play is very similar to Mohamed Salah, and his work rate and versatility could be the perfect fit for Arne Slot’s system. The only question is if Liverpool’s owners are willing to pay a premium fee.
