Liverpool handed £65M boost in Premier League race

Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in the Premier League.

Before the start of the season, no one tipped Liverpool to be one of the best teams in the league. Fans and pundits alike ruled out Arne Slot winning silverware even before he had taken charge. The first few months of the season changed the narrative on the dutch coach. Liverpool won 11 of their first 12 games, and continued that form till the end of the year. The reds’ Champions League campaign put teams on notice, Liverpool almost completed the group phase with a 100% record.

Slot exceeded expectations in his first few months in charge. What stood out was how he managed to transform some players in the team. Cody Gakpo is having his best spell in England, while Ryan Gravenberch has become one of the best midfielders in Europe.

Liverpool are still on course for the treble, with the club looking to lift the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup at the end of the season.

The reds sit top of the Premier League with six points, and a game in hand. Arsenal are their nearest competitors after 24 games played. Mikel Arteta’s side have now been handed a huge blow, as £65million striker Kai Havertz has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The German tore his hamstring in Arsenal’s training camp in Dubai. Havertz is currently the Gunners’ top scorer in the Premier League this season.

This injury has really hampered Arsenal, who also lost Gabriel Jesus for the rest of the year. Bukayo Saka is still yet to return to action after his hamstring problem. Arteta now has to find a way to drag this Arsenal team along in the title race. Liverpool meet Arsenal in May, and one would think the title race would have been decided by then.

Reds have huge advantage

Liverpool can afford to cruise through the last 14 games of the Premier League season. Arne Slot has also navigated injury problems this season. However, the reds have managed to keep their best players fit for most of the campaign.

The only players unavailable for the club for the next few games are Joe Gomez, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Trent is expected to be available for the Everton game midweek.
