Liverpool boss drops huge hint on £50M target

Liverpool bounced back to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend.

A 2-0 win over Brentford gave the Reds some breathing space after they dropped points to Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. The weekend was even sweeter as title rivals Arsenal dropped points as they were held at home to Aston Villa.

Darwin Nunez was the unlikely hero as he came off the bench on Saturday night to score a brace that sealed the win away to Brentford. The win has brought back positivity to Anfield after the fans complained about bad results in the Premier League and the League cup.

Despite the noise, Liverpool still sit top of the table and are in contention for all major trophies. Despite calls from the fans that the club needs improvements in the transfer market this month.

Arne Slot drops hint on Liverpool transfer target

Heading into the season, Arne Slot had only one permanent first team signing; Federico Chiesa. The Italian arrived on a cut-price deal from Juventus in the summer. Chiesa barely featured in the first half of the season due to injury and fitness problems.

Slot had to work with the Liverpool squad he took over from Jurgen Klopp. The Dutchman put his trust in some key players who have turned their fortunes around at Anfield. Luis Diaz has looked like one of the best wingers in the league, while Cody Gakpo looks a whole different player this campaign.

The biggest surprise was Ryan Gravenberch who has been outstanding so far. The midfielder’s performances have convinced the club to not pursue a new midfield signing. Liverpool pursued EURO 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi, who rejected a move to England to stay in Spain.

Now with Gravenberch’s form, Arne Slot is convinced the Reds do not need to sign the Spaniard anymore:

“The [No.6 roles] are important to me, but they are especially important for our attackers,” Slot said in an interview with Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports.

”…Ryan [Gravenberch] played more as an attacking midfielder but he is comfortable on the ball.

“I even think the player we wanted to bring in [Zubimendi] – I think that’s pretty much out in the open now – he was also a player who was really comfortable. He’s still a player who could bring the ball from the last line to our forwards.

“This is a special quality Ryan [Gravenberch] has. The ability to turn away from his man. He is one of a few holding midfielders, pivots, whatever you call them in this country, who can create an overload by a dribble.”

Arsenal have now been linked with signing Zubimendi, who reportedly has a €60million (£50.8million) release clause.
