Liverpool have an unbeaten record in the English Premier League as they stand at the top of the league table. Arsenal stand second as the Gunners lost to the Reds on an away day at Anfield before the international break.
The Merseysiders remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League at the moment. Surprisingly, Manchester City have suffered two losses in their first four games, as Pep Guardiola’s contract is set to expire in 2027.
City rivals Everton are doing surprisingly well as they’ve only lost one out of their first four EPL games. The Toffees also have a draw to their name as they held out against Aston Villa last time out at home.
The season’s first Merseyside derby will take place on Saturday, 20th September, as the Blues will travel to the Red side of the city to face Arne Slot’s men at Anfield.
The last five Merseyside derbies have resulted in three wins for Liverpool, one for Everton and a draw. Last time out, fan favourite Diogo Jota scored in the 57th minute at Anfield to edge out against the Blues.
Unfortunately, the late footballer won’t be with us this time as a car accident in Spain resulted in his death alongside his brother in Spain.

Everton have the referee advantage this time out

Luckily for Everton, the Football Association has handed over the match refereeing to Darren England. The Englishman has a pretty favourable record of refereeing Everton, whereas the opposite is true for Liverpool games.
Assistants will be Lee Betts, Scott Ledger, the fourth official will be Bobby Madley, John Brooks will handle the VAR and Akil Hawson will be Brooks’ assistant.
In the last 11 Everton games refereed by England, the Blues have only lost one. This might be bad news for the Reds as Darren was banned from officiating Liverpool matches in the 2023/24 season.
The Toffees played Fulham last time out under Darren England. Everton took all three points despite travelling having an away day at Craven Cottage.
In 2023, the Reds were ruled out of a goal scored by Luis Díaz as England was officiating the VAR side of the match. The game against Tottenham Hotspur caused some controversy as Klopp’s side ended up losing three points in the game.
The referee later started officiating Liverpool games again, but the last match saw Ryan Gravenberch receive a red card.
