Liverpool have already started planning for the January transfer window as Arne Slot will be looking forward to defending the English Premier League title.
However, other clubs have also set targets of their own, and the Reds will have competition in the January window with outfits scrambling for reinforcements mid-season.
Recently, Real Madrid decided to enter the race for rising Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. The Eagles are reluctant to make a move, but Los Blancos don’t fall short when it comes to the bank account.
Liverpool are also eyeing the rising talent alongside Palace skipper Marc Guéhi. The Reds almost completed a move for the English international this summer.
However, internal conflicts at Selhurst Park meant the move ended up for nought. Now, Slot and Co. hope to sign the defender in the upcoming summer for free.
Interests regarding Wharton, on the other hand, haven’t been clearly signalled by Liverpool. Real Madrid have planned on a 2026 swoop, but the exact window is still in the shadows.
There are also other targets that Los Blancos would like to have, but their interest in Wharton seems strong. However, with the latest reports coming in, the Reds might have more company on the way to sign the Englishman.
Quiz: Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Manchester United target Adam Wharton

TeamTalk reports that English Premier League rivals Manchester United have made Adam Wharton their top target for the January transfer window.
The media outlet also reported that the Englishman is open to a move to Old Trafford. This spells trouble for Liverpool as they might have to decide on their plans regarding the midfielder.
Wharton seems to be on the Reds’ books, but there have been no reports regarding their plans for Wharton. January seems calm for the Reds as Arne Slot has decided to postpone the Marc Guéhi move to summer 2026.
This is to save £25m on the player’s transfer. Previously, a move in January was anticipated, but huge savings meant Slot will be holding the defensive line for the entire season.
Crystal Palace might be willing to let Adam Wharton leave on a big premium, but a mid-season sale looks unlikely. After looking at Oliver Glasner’s reaction to the management’s decision to sell key players, the actions seem to align with the claims.
United, on the other hand, seems unwavering and will do anything in their power to secure a move for the midfielder. This includes hording off the likes of Liverpool.
