€40M Liverpool star admits he could leave the club soon

The atmosphere at Anfield continues to grow unsettling as Liverpool navigate the transfer window.

It is already public news that multiple players could be on their way out of Merseyside soon. The trio of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are nowhere closer to signing new deals at the club.

The good news this week is that the Reds ended a short blip of form after they beat Brentford 2-0 away from home. Liverpool had dropped points to Manchester United and Nottingham Forest in the league before their win on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s men continue to sit top of the league, and extended their lead further as Arsenal dropped points to Aston Villa.

Despite flying high in all competitions so far, there feels like there is a lot of tension at Anfield. The unresolved futures of the key trio has dominated the headlines over the past few weeks. Meanwhile, fans and people around the club have called for the team to add new faces in the transfer window.

Arne Slot is adamant that he is content with the current squad, and as it stands, no one is leaving the club. But this latest news could send more shockwaves through Merseyside. Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has dropped a huge hint on his future at the club.

In the Champions League pre-match press conference, Konate revealed that the Reds had offered him a new deal on the table:

“It’s true, I’ve been offered a new contract by Liverpool,” said Konaté in front of the press. “Am I close to signing it? That’s another conversation.”

This news comes as a shock twist, considering the French international was quiet on his contract status when asked previously.

“Who talked about that a few months ago?” Konate said. “The club didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything. It’s one person that said that.

“I didn’t know, after I spoke with the club but I think I am really focused on what happens now. We will see what will happen.” he added.

Konate deal shows the Reds are learning their lesson

After delaying on offering new contracts to Salah, Trent and Van Dijk, this is positive news. The Reds are trying to tie down a key piece of the team for the long term. Hopefully subsequent renewals for the star trio will be sealed in the coming months.
