Liverpool started the year in shaky form; they struggled in their first few games in January. The Reds were held at home by Manchester United and later Nottingham Forest in the space of ten days. Slot’s men also lost 1-0 to Spurs in the first leg of their League Cup tie.

During these three games Mohamed Salah scored just one goal, which lead to fans asking for attacking reinforcements in January. So far, no player has been signed during this window, with the club looking at this summer for potential targets.

One of these players could be Lille striker Jonathan David, who will be at Anfield on Tuesday night. The Canadian is free to negotiate with foreign clubs as he can move for free this summer. His destination has not been confirmed but Premier League clubs including Liverpool have been linked according to Corriere dello Sport. David has 17 goals and seven assists, with goals against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League.

Should the Reds sign Jonathan David?

This season, Arne Slot’s team selections have made one thing clear – Darwin Nunez is not his preferred striker. Diogo Jota started the season up top, and now in his absence, Slot prefers to use Luis Diaz there. Nunez has played his part, and even showed against Brentford that he is a useful option with his brace to win the game. But Slot looks like he has made up his mind.

Jonathan David would be a fantastic option up front; he will be available on a free transfer and has a great record in Europe. His versatility could also see him play on either flanks in attack.
