Chelsea line up shock move for Liverpool star with uncertain future

Liverpool could lose a couple of players as they prepare their summer transfer plans.

Ahead of the summer, the reds have a lot of decisions to make. Liverpool made it clear in the past two windows that their focus lied in this summer’s transfer market. The team decided against signing players in January, and made just one signing in August.

Arne Slot has had to focus on making the best of the team he inherited from Jurgen Klopp. The Dutch coach has done a fantastic job so far. He has brought out the best from the likes of Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool have a great chance to end the season with silverware. The team is currently in the race for the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup.

The summer window raises a lot of questions around Anfield. The futures of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk remain unresolved. And it is widely reported that at least one of them will leave. Earlier this month, Van Dijk rubbished any rumours that he had signed a long-term deal.

Liverpool also have to worry about losing other players in the first team squad. According to Caught Offside, Chelsea are lining up a move for Caoimhin Kelleher. The goalkeeper has been an outstanding deputy for Alisson over the past year. Kelleher had one of his best performances as Liverpool beat Chelsea in the League Cup final last year.

The 26-year old revealed in November that he is only focused on this season, after there were questions about his future:

“No, my thinking at the moment is, to be honest, no (I don’t think about my future),” he said.

“Obviously it’s quite early on in the season.

“Even then, my focus is on playing well. If I’m thinking about my future and different things like that, it’s not going to help my game. I need to be clear mentally to play well. So no, that doesn’t come into my thinking at the moment to be honest.”

Chelsea want to sign Kelleher as they try to resolve their goalkeeping situation, which has been catastrophic over the past two years.

Should the reds sell Kelleher?

Every sign points to yes. Despite showing his ability over the past year, there seems to be no benefit in keeping the Ireland international at Anfield. Kelleher wants to start, and with Liverpool already planning for new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili to replace Alisson, there is a huge opportunity here. The reds can make a profit on the 26-year old, provided Chelsea bring an acceptable offer.

Kelleher has been a great servant to the club. He currently has less than two years remaining on his current deal, and will not be first choice in the future. Liverpool have all the great conditions to make good money off the player.
