Arne Slot has lost faith in this Liverpool signing as things sour quickly

Liverpool mistakes last season

Manager Arne Slot has seemingly lost his faith in this Liverpool signing. Pundits believe him trying three players in that position is a worrying sign for the player’s future at the club.

Having lost three games in a row, Liverpool’s winning start to the season has come to a screeching halt. The wheels have not yet fallen off but the cracks are certainly showing. Seven wins in a row, with five in the Premier League saw the club setting the early pace.

The defending champions saw themselves opening up a five-point lead only to slide below Arsenal in second place. The Gunners are currently are up by a solitary point.

Liverpool’s defending worries has been a major talking point, but according to pundits we are just scratching the surface.

Joining from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, Jeremie Frimpong was tipped to take over from Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right side of the pitch. Since arriving at Anfield the Dutchman has started in three games. An appearance each in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and the Community Shield.

During Frimpong’s injury Conor Bradley and Dominik Szoboszlai have been filling in that position. Bradley has been in the staring XI in three Premier League games, meanwhile Szoboszlai has done the job in three other league fixtures and against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

As a result, Premier League legends Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer have now weighed in with their thoughts. Speaking on the Wayne Rooney show, the former Manchester United feels, “there was worrying signs from the start.”

“I know obviously Liverpool win the games, but they weren’t winning them in in a way a manner they was last season. And I think there was there was signs there that something weren’t quite right. The last week has shown that.”

“I think he’s obviously he clearly doesn’t trust any of the right backs”, he went on to add.

Newcastle icon Shearer was not mincing his words either, “They’ve signed Frimpong, and he’s not comfortable with him at right-back, they’ve tried three different right-backs, Frimpong, Szoboszlai and Bradley.”

Shearer feels the problems are not just in the back but also in the middle of the park, “He’s played Frimpong up top on the right of a front three on Thursday at Istanbul, that didn’t work either. So they have big problems, not just defensively but in the midfield as well.”

Liverpool’s next fixture will be after the international break, where they will be making a trip to Old Trafford.
