“I have actually heard”: BBC journalist shares what he’s heard about Salah leaving Liverpool

As Liverpool prepare for a transitional period with Jurgen Klopp's impending departure, the future of key players has become a topic of intense speculation and uncertainty.

Against this backdrop, Mohamed Salah, one of the club's most influential figures, finds himself at the centre of rumours linking him with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty recently addressed these speculations during a fan Q&A, providing insights into Salah’s situation as he approaches the final year of his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025.

When asked if now is the right time to sell Salah, the journalist discussed what a complicated transfer it would be.

"It's one I have actually heard some Liverpool fans talking about," McNulty said.

"Mohamed Salah has been one of the finest players in Liverpool’s history, with astonishing consistency and goalscoring. To even contemplate selling him would have huge ramifications.

"It may actually make financial sense but the other half of that equation is how can Liverpool, who will also be bringing in a new manager, replace someone who has been a superstar for them?

"This is not a decision that will be taken lightly as he remains a superb player, even if he has not quite been at his sharpest since returning from a hamstring injury."

Verdict

Salah, who turns 32 in June, has been pivotal to Liverpool's success, establishing himself as one of the club’s all-time greats through his consistent performance and goal-scoring prowess.

It seems as though there isn't a solution (aside from a new contract for Salah) that will allow Liverpool to make the best of this awkward solution.

While Salah may be 32, he is also still a top player.

A lot will depend on Liverpool's new manager and what his plans for the club will be.

If he wants an overhaul of the squad, he may be forced to sell Salah to make it happen.

As things stand, we are yet to see much real evidence to suggest Salah actually wants to leave and until reliable outlets link him with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, I'm remaining calm.
